WEATHER FORECAST: Snow, cold ahead

Arctic front plunges into region tonight

LOUISVILLE — It was a mild afternoon with highs well into the 60s for many, but that will change tonight as an early season Arctic front plunges into Kentuckiana after midnight.

We should see rain showers this evening in advance of the front, especially northern sections. As the cold air invades late tonight, the rain will begin to mix with sleet then change to a brief period of snow before ending. That transition will take place north to south starting at midnight far north and ending across far south near sunrise.

Most roads should remain wet, but elevated roadways, like bridges and overpasses, may have a slick spot or two. Use caution.

It will be a sunny, but cold Tuesday for the area. Highs will struggle through the 30s. The wind will have a bite to it with gusts into the upper 20 mph range at times. This means wind chills will remain in the 20s all day. Lows Tuesday night under clear skies may dip into the upper teens in some areas.

Milder weather is expected later in the week.

FORECAST:

Monday Evening: Drizzle/Rain showers moving in.

Temps: 50s

After Midnight: Rain mixes with sleet, then snow. The snow will develop from the north to the south. Becoming quite windy.

Temp near sunrise:  32 degrees

Tuesday: Windy, sunny and cold.

High: 38

Tuesday night: Clear and quite cold.

Low: 24 (teens away from city)
