SELLERSBURG — Two men were arrested in Sellersburg following a traffic and foot pursuit with Indiana State Police Tuesday afternoon.

ISP reported a trooper attempted to conduct a stop for traffic violation on a vehicle traveling northbound on Interstate 65 about 4 p.m.

The vehicle was driven by Robert K. Jarvis, 30, and occupied by Michael T. Chastain, 35, both of Salem.

An attempt to pull over the vehicle was initiated near mile marker number seven of the interstate, but the vehicle refused to stop and attempted to flee from the trooper, ISP reported.

“The vehicle exited at the Nine Mile Marker and came to an abrupt stop. At which time, a passenger [Chastain] in the vehicle jumped out and fled on foot north towards the town of Sellersburg,” according to ISP.

While Chastain fled from the stopped vehicle, Jarvis remained behind the wheel.

Chastain was later located behind a residence in the town of Sellersburg.

Both men were taken from the scene to the Michael L. Becher Adult Correctional Complex.

ISP reported Chastain was wanted on warrants out of Washington County on the charges of domestic battery, invasion of privacy, criminal mischief and resisting law enforcement.

The incident resulted in Chastain being preliminarily charged with fleeing law enforcement, a class A misdemeanor.

Jarvis was preliminarily charged with resisting law enforcement while using a vehicle, a class D felony.

The Sellersburg Police Department and the Clark County Sheriff’s Office assisted ISP during the incident.
