Fatality reported near I-64, I-265 interchange

FLOYD COUNTY — The driver of a vehicle involved in a one-car accident was killed Tuesday afternoon. Indiana State Police responded to the wreck on the Interstate 265 westbound ramp to eastbound Interstate 64 just before 12:30 p.m. in Floyd County at the New Albany city limits.

Witnesses say a blue 2007 Ford Taurus was traveling westbound on I-265 at a high rate of speed, according to an ISP news release. Upon taking the ramp to I-64 eastbound, the Ford for an unknown reason left the roadway and traveled down a steep embankment where it crashed. The driver, sole occupant of the vehicle, was transported to University Hospital in Louisville by air ambulance where he was pronounced dead.

The drivers name is being withheld pending notification to next of kin. The driver was not wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash. This is a pending crash investigation.Further information will be released.
