VIDEO: Severe storms, possible tornadoes in the forecast for this afternoon

An outbreak of severe weather is possible across the area today as a cold front approaches the area.

Around midday the morning storms will exit the area and that sets the stage for the main window of severe weather later this afternoon and evening. Damaging winds, a few tornadoes, and heavy rainfall are the main threats after 3 p.m. today, according to WAVE 3 New.

The tornado threat will be highest with individual supercell storms that could form around this time if the atmosphere becomes unstable enough. Portions of Southern Indiana are at the greatest risk of this.

After 6 p.m. a line of storms will begin to trek through all of the area, bringing the threat of damaging winds up to 70 mph and isolated tornadoes.

Once this line clears the area by 10 p.m. our severe weather chance ends and quieter, cooler weather moves in.

Today: AM storms, ending around midday. PM severe storms. High: 73

Tonight: Storms Clear Out by 10 PM. Partly Cloudy. Low: 45

Monday: Sunny. High: 55

Tuesday: Sunny. High: 48 Low: 33

The WAVE 3 Storm Tracking Team is analyzing data and putting together the most accurate forecast.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed us in a MODERATE RISK for severe thunderstorms, with a rare HIGH RISK area just to our north across much of Indiana. The main threats will be tornadoes and damaging winds. There is still some uncertainty with this system as it continues to develop.
