CLARKSVILLE

Vets eat free at Applebee’s

Applebee’s restaurant in Clarksville, along with locations across the country, will thank the nation’s veterans and troops by offering them free meals on Veterans Day.

For the fourth year, Applebee’s will salute the nation’s military by serving more than 1 million free meals on Veterans Day.

Clarksville Applebee’s will be open from 11 a.m. to midnight on Sunday, Nov. 11. Guests will need to provide proof of service, including U.S. Uniform Services Identification Card, U.S. Uniform Services Retired Identification Card, Current Leave and Earnings Statement, Veterans Organization Card, photograph in uniform or wearing uniform, DD214, Citation or Commendation.

The offer is valid for dine-in customers only. Traditional sides are included with free entrees; 2 for $20 appetizers, upgraded side items or extras, beverages, desserts and gratuity are not included.

CHARLESTOWN

Meeting set for farmers, others

Purdue Extension Offices in Southeastern Indiana will again be hosting a meeting for farmers, pesticide applicators and crop advisers from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, at the Clark County Extension Office, 9608 Ind. 62, Charlestown.

Purdue entomologist, John Obermeyer, will focus on the significant insect challenges of 2012 and present management tactics and strategies to address these insect challenges for the future. Purdue University plant pathologist Kiersten Wise will discuss crop diseases, grain toxins and management options for 2013.  And, Purdue weed science extension specialist, Travis Legleiter, will discuss current weed control issues and new management options for 2012.  

There is a $10 charge for private applicators desiring pesticide applicator credit. There will be no charge for commercial pesticide applications and anyone is welcome to attend.
