Teenager hurt in Georgetown wreck remains in hospital

Accident still under investigation

GEORGETOWN — The 17-year-old Harrison County boy seriously injured in a vehicle collision in downtown Georgetown on Wednesday afternoon has been identified as Spencer Dauphinee.

Floyd County Sheriff’s Department Maj. Jeff Topping said the boy remained in University of Louisville Hospital’s internal care unit Wednesday night with a “closed-head injury” and internal injuries. Dauphinee was the only occupant in a Pontiac passenger car that was struck by a fully loaded semitrailer about 3:45 p.m.

The juvenile had pulled onto Ind. 64 from Greenville-Georgetown Road when the semitrailer made impact, Topping said.

First responders had called to have the juvenile air lifted to U of L Hospital, but because of the inclement weather or a delay in the helicopter’s arrival, the juvenile was transported by ambulance.

Topping said Thursday that the accident is still being investigated by Combined Accident Reconstruction Team, which is comprised of officers from FCSD, New Albany Police Department and Indiana State Police.
