New Albany-Floyd County library receives large donation of abstracts

Reception set for May 15

NEW ALBANY — Local real estate agent and patron of the humanities Pat Harrison has made an extensive donation to the collections of the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library.

Harrison has donated the records of Southern Indiana Abstract Co., which was the long-time business of Max Mason Sr., who was a fixture in the community, and a long-time patron of the Indiana Room until his passing in 2012, according to a press release from the NA-FC Library. For house historians, building abstracts are important tools in helping those doing research determine when their house was built and who has lived there in the past.

“We are delighted that Pat has made her donation so these abstracts can be used by researchers for years to come,” said archivist Matt Eidem in the release.

At 5:30 p.m. May 15, the public is invited to a reception held in honor of Harrison in the library’s Strassweg Auditorium to thank her for donation to the library and officially open the collection to researchers.

Pieces of the donation will be made available for viewing and Eidem will say a few words about the importance that this collection will have for the library’s patrons.
