Deadline for ‘Giants’ extended

Members of the community now have until noon on Monday, July 29, to make reservations for Hope Southern Indiana’s seventh annual “Giants in the Faith” celebration from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 4 at Huber  Winery’s Plantation Hall in Starlight.

To download a reservation form with details, log onto or stop by Hope at the Brown-Starks Neighborhood Place at 1200 Bono Road, New Albany. Completed forms can be mailed, delivered, or dropped in the mail slot there.

The event will honor 25 individuals and couples from 12 different churches who have been submitted by the public for having had an impact on their Christian faith. Call 812-206-1800 with questions.


Women’s Day Program held

The Women of Bethel AME Church, 200 West Park Place, Jeffersonville, will host their annual “Women’s Day Program, ” at 11 a.m. Sunday, July 28, during morning worship service.

Sister Beverly Couts of Canaan Christian Church in Louisville, will be the speaker of the hour bringing a word from the Lord. The theme for this year’s Women’s Day Program is: “Women Staying on the Pathway to Christ.”

Beverly Couts is a native of Jeffersonville.


Access chamber award forms online

The Charlestown Chamber is accepting nominations for the 2013 Business Awards. The chamber is using an online survey to accept nominations in addition to hard copy nomination form.

Nomination Guidelines:

• You may nominate as many companies as you like in any category.

• Finalists will be selected from the eligible nominees submitted.

• All finalists must complete an entry form to be considered for an award.

• All nominations must be received by Sept. 30, 2013

• Nominees must be located in Charlestown or a member of the Charlestown Chamber of Commerce.

Family class being offered

Floyd Memorial Birthing Center is offering a free New Family Fundamentals Class from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services, Paris Health Education Center, 1850 State Street, New Albany.

Meet Floyd Memorial Birthing Center’s certified nurse midwife Carla Layne as she presents the class: “Midwives, Doulas and Dads class.” Learn how a midwife can help during pregnancy, labor and delivery. Layne will provide new insight on natural and interventional births. Dads can become better prepared, too, by discovering fathering basics.

Plus, a doula will be introduced and will discuss how doulas can provide education and support for both parents.
