JEFFERSONVILLE — A 58-year-old Jeffersonville man is in the Clark County jail after admitting to sexually molesting a 6-year-old girl with whom he shares a home.

Norman Bruce Matthews, Woodland Court, appeared in Clark County Circuit Court No. 1 Tuesday and was charged with class C felony child molesting and placed under a $15,000 full-cash bond. A not guilty plea was also entered during the proceeding.

The Jeffersonville Police Department filed a probable-cause affidavit for Matthews’ arrest, which claims he committed the abuse between April 1 and October 31 last year. A report also was filed with Department of Child Services on Feb. 4 that alleged the child was molested by Matthews.

Two days later, a DCS official interviewed the girl at her school.

“During the interview, [the child] disclosed Norman [Matthews] had fondled her ... while at their home ... ,” according to the affidavit.

Later in the day, Feb. 6, Matthews was interviewed by a detective at the Jeffersonville Police Department headquarters.

“After signing a waiver of rights form, Norman [Matthews] admitted to fondling” the child and also admitted to making the child fondle him on a separate occasion, according to the affidavit. “While en route to the jail, [Matthews] advised this occurred approximately one year ago,” the affidavit stated.

Matthews was arrested by JPD after the interview at the police station and was booked into the Michael L. Becher Adult Correctional Complex.
