Plan approvals granted for River Ridge project

New Catamaran Corp. facility receives OK at special meetings

CLARK COUNTY —  A project that will bring more than 200 jobs to the city by 2015 received development approvals earlier this week.

Final plans for Catamaran Corp. were approved at specially called Plan Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals and Drainage Board meetings Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.

The special meetings were called in order for the site developer, Crossdock Development, to meet a tight construction timeline. Catamaran Corp. anticipates opening its building in November.

At the outset of the drainage board meeting, City Engineer Andy Crouch gave an overview of the drainage plan within River Ridge. He addressed concerns raised by the board members about the amount of water that a regional basin, where the bulk of the runoff from the project sites along Patrol Road will go, can hold and whether or not capacity remains.

“We don’t typically look at regional basins in terms of gallons, or millions of gallons,” Crouch said. “We look at it in terms of how much property was supposed to go to it developed, and how much is currently going to it, or how much is requested to go to it.”

The regional retention basin is near the Amazon.com Inc. site and a small corner of the Catamaran Corp. drainage plan drains off-site, away from the regional detention basin. A site owned by Capstone Development sits in-between the new Catamaran Corp. location and Amazon’s location, and a temporary plan had to be worked out while the developer is seeking a tenant for the site.

But Crouch said, even when the Capstone site is eventually finished, that he is comfortable with the plans presented to handle the drainage. He offered his recommendation that the drainage board approve the plans.

Catamaran Corp. plans call for constructing a 75,000-square-foot building on a 12-acre site at 1050 Patrol Road. An additional 75,000 square feet adjacent to the building will be available for future expansion for the company.

Catamaran Corp. is a pharmaceutical benefit management company and it will bring 104 employees in 2014, have 205 full-time employees at the facility by 2015, with annual salaries averaging $50,000.
