New Albany CRIT race set for Sunday

NEW ALBANY — Downtown New Albany will be the place to race on Sunday.

The New Albany CRIT cycling event will feature contests for men, women and youth competitors, with races being held from 9 a.m. to 4:25 p.m.

Prizes of up to $1,000 as well as merchandise and medals will be handed out for the New Albany CRIT, which is being presented by Clarksville Schwinn, Southern Indiana Wheelmen, the Indiana-Kentucky Cycling Association and the Louisville Bicycle Club.

The course is a flat, six-corner criterium that will start near the downtown Farmers Market pavilion at corner of Bank and Market Streets.

The course follows Bank Street to Spring Street, then to Pearl Street before connecting with East Main Street.

From East Main, the path winds to East Fourth Street and connects with East Market Street before ending back at the Farmers Market pavilion.

As several riders are expected to participate, there will be street closures along the near one-mile race course during the event.

All 2013 USA Cycling rules apply to the event. Registration opens on race day at 7:30 a.m., and closes 30 minutes to the start of each race.

The cost for the first race is regular fee, and each additional race is $10 to enter. Fees are $20 or $35 depending on the contest.

You can register online for the event by visiting truesport.com. For more information, call 812-948-BIKE.
