Timing of tech upgrade debated

New Albany-Floyd County schools mull One-to-One laptop initiative

Brad Snyder, deputy superintendent, said that also included in the bond was a proposal to put Galena Elementary School — which closed in 2010 — back to use.

He said the current plan to use it for Floyd Central High School was the No. 1 contender in suggestions. He said along with that, it could be used for the Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps program.

But he said the cost to renovate the vacated building could fluctuate. For now, he said the administration estimates some basic renovations at about $270,000.

Though he said that number was simply a starting point, a complete revamp of the space would closer to “a couple million dollars.”

The building’s gym has been used for Floyd Central’s wrestling team. Snyder suggested the NJROTC program could use it for practicing drill exercises and parts of the building could serve some needs of the school’s marching band.
