St. Mary’s selling school items


There will be a sale of items from St. Mary's Catholic Academy, 420 E. Eighth St., New Albany, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday and Friday, July 25 and 26.

Included in the sale are student desks, books [hardback, paperback and textbooks], art, science, math and language materials, and more. Items should be of special interest to teachers, home school families and day care workers.

The sale will take place in the gymnasium at the top of the ramp at the back of the building. Payment in the form of cash or check with photo ID, no credit or debit cards. All sales will be final.

Gallery to feature new exhibit

The Gallery on Pearl will feature four area artists in its upcoming display titled “Creativity Through Form and Function.”

The display will include wood, ceramic, and glass blown pieces by the artists Kerry Zimmerman, Cheryl Ulrich-Barnett, Joe Oberhausen and Steve Goodwin, and the exhibit will run from Aug. 1 through Sept. 28.

The exhibit will kickoff with a reception and artist talk from 6 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 1 at The Gallery on Pearl, which is located inside The White House Centre at 222 Pearl St. in downtown New Albany.

JEFFERSONVILLE

Walking tour set for Friday


A historic walking tour of downtown Jeffersonville will take place at 6 p.m. on Friday, July 26, rain or shine.

Meet at Maple Elementary School, 429 Division St., for a tour highlighting the East Maple Street neighborhood. Clark County Historian Jeanne Burke will lead the tour, sharing stories about the neighborhood’s history, and architectural and historical information about the buildings.

The tour will conclude in time for participants to return to Warder Park to enjoy a concert. Other upcoming tours are tentatively planned for Aug. 23 and Sept. 27.

Get spiritual at church event


First Trinity Baptist Church, 1506 Spring St., Jeffersonville, is hosting a Spiritual Boot Camp from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, July 27, at the church.

GEORGETOWN

Master Gardeners to meet


Sunnyside Master Gardeners and the Georgetown Optimist Club,  8260 Ind. 64, Georgetown, invites the public to visit the Butterfly Garden on the hillside behind the Georgetown Optimist Club from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 27.

Master Gardener volunteers will be on hand to give guided tours of the garden, brochures will be available describing the plantings and a guide to the native butterflies found in Southern Indiana will also be provided. Included in the tour will be an exhibit on Bluebird Trails, one of which has been constructed on the Club grounds. Come see the “secret garden” that exists in Georgetown. Parking is available in the Optimist Club lot.

Opening Gates Foundation is hosting a golf scramble to benefit the nonprofit starting at 2 p.m. Friday, July 26, at Hidden Creek Golf Course in Sellersburg.

Fashion show on tap this week


Fall into Fashion, sponsored by Grassroots Prevention Coalition of Clark County, will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 25, at Community Action of Southern Indiana gymnasium, 1613 E. Eighth St., Jeffersonville.

Enjoy an evening of career, casual and back-to-school fashion. A dessert bar will be available.

Admission for adults is $10; children 6 to 12, $5. Proceeds to benefit Grassroots Prevention Coalition of Clark County.



Tea Party to meet

The Clark County Tea Party invites the public to the group’s weekly meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 25, at Silver Creek Middle School, 495 N. Indiana Ave., Sellersburg.

Guest speaker will be K Carl Smith, whose commitment to the guiding principles of the Founding Fathers led him to launch the Frederick Douglass Republican Movement. Smith has been featured on the “700 Club,” Fox News’ “Mike Huckabee Show” and numerous radio and Internet talk shows.

HENRYVILLE   

Church hosting ice cream supper


Blue Lick Christian Church will host its 81st annual Ice Cream Supper from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 27.

The day will include a quilt show, paintings from local artist Rocky Gibson and a meal of barbecue, hot dogs, green beans, slaw, potato casserole, cake, pie and homemade ice cream.

The church is located at 16113 Memphis Blue Lick Road in Henryville.
