Steamboat Museum to hold open house

The Howard Steamboat Museum and Mansion, 1101 East Market St., Jeffersonville, will hold a holiday Open House from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9. Admission is free. 

Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there to visit with children and free goodie bags will be available for each child. Music will be provided by the Corydon Dulcimer Society and holiday shopping opportunities will be available.

Riverside Elementary Family Night 

Riverside Elementary will host its annual Family Night on at 6 tonight, Dec. 6. An evening of fun will begin with Riverside Elementary’s drum core class performing to showcase the skills gained this semester. 

Families will then have the opportunity to participate in grade-level activities focused on helping students become more successful in mathematics. Each teacher will model a mathematics tool for parents that can be created using everyday household items. Families will have the chance to visit three classrooms in a timed rotation. Each rotation will have a drawing and the winner will receive the created mathematics tool. Refreshments will also be provided by the Riverside Elementary parent/teacher organization. 

Riverside Elementary families are invited and encouraged to attend. Riverside Elementary is located at 17 Laurel Dr.,Jeffersonville.

 

SOUTHERN INDIANA

Arts Council hosping reception

The Arts Council of Southern Indiana will sponsor an opening reception for Shawna Khalily’s “The Veils are Thinning,” 3 to 6 p.m., Dec. 8,  at the center, 820 E. Market St., New Albany.

Khalily is an accomplished printmaker that creates mesmerizingly beautiful, elaborately carved, hand colored woodcuts. Khalily’s works inspire and evoke the human condition and striving toward higher consciousness, intertwining human figures, flora and fauna in epic struggles in her own unique style. 

 

Toys being accepted at Young’s office

U.S. Rep. Todd Young’s Jeffersonville office is accepting toys on behalf of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program.
