Hike on National Trails Day

American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day is the country’s largest celebration of trails.

To celebrate the day, the Clarksville Parks and Recreation will be offering a free guided nature hike through Lapping Park at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 7. Explore the beauty of the town’s largest park with Brian Vance, volunteer naturalist at Falls of the Ohio State Park.

Wear hiking shoes for this moderate hike, rain or shine. Visitors are asked to meet near Endris Lodge in Lapping Park. Preregistration is not required for this hike.


Bank’s cookout to benefit Crusade

First Harrison Bank, 2744 Allison Lane, Jeffersonville, will hold its six annual Crusade For Children Cookout from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, June 6.

Volunteers will be grilling cheeseburgers, hamburgers, brats and hot dogs, including chips, a cookie and a drink for a small donation. Proceeds will benefit Crusade for Children.

Thursday movies coming to RiverStage

RiverStage in Jeffersonville is adding another night of events to its summer schedule.

Beginning this week, the Mayor’s Thursday Night Theater event at the outdoor venue will feature a film at dark on the first Thursday of the month through October.

The first film will be “Pyscho.” Each month, Jeffersonville residents will vote on a list of three options available on RiverStage’s Facebook page.

Parks and Recreation Director Paul Northam said that the event won’t air any films with a rating higher than PG-13.

“They’ll be more geared toward parents, but they certainly will be viewable by children,” he said.

Yard sale starts today

Harvest Chapel Church, 1544 Plank Road Jeffersonville, will sponsor a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today, June 5, through Saturday, June 7, at the church

The sale will include a couch, recliner, computer table, clothing, 1985 Ford Van, dinnerware, vases, small appliances, dish washer and other items. Organizers also will be selling hot dogs, chips and drinks.

JHS hosting art show

Jeffersonville High School will be showcasing the artwork of the AP 3-D Art students.

The show will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Monday, June 9, at Faith Lutheran Church, 2014 Allison Lane, Jeffersonville

The reception will be from 4:30 to 7 p.m. today, June 5, at the church.


Church holding yard sale Saturday

Centenary United Methodist Church, 309 E. Spring St., New Albany, will sponsor a yard sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, June 7, at the church, hosted by the Centenary Youth Group.

Items will include purses, odds and ends, small furniture pieces, luggage, chairs, lamps, technology and more.

Proceeds will be used to support the church Soup Kitchen (Christ’s Kitchen) matching grant challenge. All purchases and donations are tax deductible.

Silver Heights holding annual camp

Silver Heights Camp and Retreat Center will hold its annual camp meeting Sunday through Thursday, June 8-12.

The Rev. Tony Alstott will be preaching every day at 7 p.m. A time of prayer will at 6:30 p.m. in the Prayer Chapel.

Federal employees to meet

The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association will hold a business meeting at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, t the Clark County Red Cross Building, 1805 E. Eighth St., Jeffersonville. Members and prospective members are urged to attend.

No speakers are scheduled. The chapter board will bring members up-to-date with the large changes being proposed at the national level. It is important to get feedback from members prior to delegates attending the 33rd Biennial National Convention in Orlando, Fla., in August.

Survivors reunion coming to Cancer Center

The Floyd Memorial Hospital Cancer Center of Indiana, 2210 Green Valley Road, New Albany, is hosting a free cancer survivors reunion from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 6.

All cancer survivors and their families are invited to join in for a free day of fun in the Wild, Wild West of Floyd Memorial’s Cancer Center of Indiana. The Barbeque Cowboy will be on hand smoking fresh barbeque, brisket and all the sides.

Adults and kids can have fun testing their aim at the horseshoe toss and trying their luck with bingo, while Mr. and Mrs. Magic will paint faces, make custom balloon creations and inspire wonder with some old fashioned magic tricks.
