Property, casualty insurance in Floyd County stays the same

Yearly premiums stay unchanged

NEW ALBANY — The Floyd County Commissioners got a bit of good news Tuesday at its regular meeting at the Pine View Government Center.

There were no major changes in the county’s property and casualty insurance.

Glenn Smith, with Collistus Smith Insurance and the county’s agent, told the commissioners that while some things changed like the amount of vehicles covered by the policy, the yearly premiums did not.

The county did add 16 more vehicles to its fleet, but “[2013] was a good year loss-wise,” according to Smith.

Smith said since the county is on a large deductible plan, it has saved more than $250,000 over the last several years. There was only $15,000 in claims against the county last year. There is still a $150,000 workman’s compensation claim, the maximum amount, pending from 2011, Smith said.

“It sounds like things are going pretty well as far as our insurance goes,” said Commissioners Chuck Freiberger.
