NEWS AND TRIBUNE
Republican Chris Lane has announced his candidacy for Floyd County Superior Court No. 2 judge. The primary is May 6.
Lane and James “Jim” Hancock are the two Republicans to file for the position so far that will be vacated Dec. 31, 2014, with the retirement of Judge Glenn Hancock. Democrat Matthew Lorch has also filed.
Lane says he is excited about the opportunity to serve his community.
“The citizens of Floyd County deserve someone in office that not only has the experience to serve as judge, but also the leadership and vision to make positive changes in how court resources are utilized,” Lane said in a press release announcing his candidacy. “I’m confident this combination of vision and experience makes me the best candidate for judge of Floyd County Superior Court No. 2.”
Lane grew up in Floyd County, graduated from New Albany High School and Indiana University Southeast and completed his law education at Capital University Law School.
“I have been blessed to come from a family who spent their lives serving our community ... my father as a teacher, and my mother as a nurse,” said Lane who previously served as deputy prosecutor in Floyd County. “I have served as a deputy prosecuting attorney in Floyd County Superior Court No. 2. In my opinion, the judge in this court has the greatest opportunity to make a difference in the defendants’ lives that come before the court,” Lane said. “It (Superior Court No. 2) has the highest volume of misdemeanor offenses filed in the county. This presents a great opportunity to affect these people by providing a fair and impartial forum to hear the facts of the cases. Utilizing local community resources can also help to make a difference in people’s lives who may be struggling with addiction issues.”
Lane currently serves as the Floyd County Council attorney and as a private attorney. He has served on numerous boards including New Albany Township Fire Board, Hope Board, Greenville town attorney, Floyd County Zoning and Appeals Board, and Floyd County Planning Commission.
Lane is married to Dr. Christy Lane, owner of Growing Kids Pediatrics, and is the father to three boys.
