Speaker to talk black history
Celebrate Black History Month at the Jeffersonville Township Public Library during the month of February.
The library will host an author visit at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 22, in the Youth Services Department. Author Tytianna Nikia Maria Wells Smith will be reading from her recent book, “Sweet Pea & Sugar Tea’s Country Family Adventures: Volume 1: A Collection of African-American Poems.”
After the program, stay for some sweet tea and tea cookies. The Youth Services Department will also have a small craft project for the public after the program.
Books will be available for purchase and the author will be happy sign copies.

St. Luke’s to host sausage supper
St. Luke’s annual sausage supper will be held Friday, Feb. 21. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and dinner will be served from 4 to 7 p.m.
Both carry-out and delivery are available. The cost for lunch is $8 for adults and $4 for children. Dinner is all-you-can-eat and costs $10 for adults and $5 for children.

Family Ark seeks foster parents
Family Ark will host a free information meeting from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, for anyone interested in becoming a foster parent. The information meeting will be in the Lodge on the Family Ark campus, 101 Noah’s Lane, Jeffersonville.

Tax sessions scheduled
The AARP Tax Aide of Southern Indiana has scheduled a series of help sessions throughout February for those needing assistance with filing taxes.

Food handlers class, exam Feb. 28
Indiana law requires certification of one food handler per food establishment. To help meet this requirement, Purdue Extension Service of Floyd County is offering the ServSafe Food Handlers Certification Class & Exam on Friday, Feb. 28.
The one-day class will be at the Purdue Technology Center, 3000 Technology Ave., New Albany. Check-in is from 8 to 8:30 a.m. Class time is 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The exam will be administered at the end of class in the afternoon.
A photo identification with signature is required to take the exam. The cost is $150, which includes book, class and exam. For the exam only, the cost is $50.
Pre-register by Friday, Feb. 21, to insure timely delivery of your study manual. Walk-in registration for this class will be allowed only if class materials are available. There will be a $25 late fee for walk-ins.

Get food before NAHS games
DePauw Methodist Church, 925 Vincennes St., New Albany, will host a tailgate dinner event from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Feb. 21 and 22, at the church.
The Friday menu will include beef stew, corn bread, Jello salad, dessert and a drink. The Saturday menu The menu will be: spicy Italian pasta, green beans, Italian bread, dessert and a drink.
