Habitat hosting information sessions
The New Albany/Floyd County Habitat for Humanity will be hosting information sessions to qualify families for eligibility to apply to the 2015 Homeownership Program. NA-FC Habitat is a housing ministry that seeks to spread affordable housing among low-income families in Clark and Floyd counties.
Sessions will be held at 6 p.m. today, Feb. 20, at St. Paul’s Episcopal in Jeffersonville, and 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, at the New Albany Housing Authority.
Intercambio at the NA-FC Library
Would you like to practice speaking Spanish?
Practice your language skills at the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library, 180 W. Spring St., New Albany. The library is having an intercambio from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, in the Applegate Room on the lower level of the NA-FC Public Library.
There will be a bilingual facilitator there who will assist with communication. Questions will be asked in English and Spanish to help build vocabulary. Participants are encouraged to bring a tablet and a pen and pencil.
Our Place hosting awards
Our Place Drug and Alcohol Education Services Inc. will be hosting the third-annual Jamey Aebersold Spirit of the Red Ribbon Awards Dinner on April 17.
The Spirit of the Red Ribbon Awards will acknowledge those who have made a significant contribution toward the education, prevention, intervention and treatment of drug and alcohol abuse in the community year round.
The awards are given in honor of Jamey Aebersold and his continued commitment in this area. If chosen for this award, recipients will be honored by their peers and friends at a dinner and ceremony at the Calumet Club in New Albany.
Nominations are needed in the categories of education, faith based, community, industry/business, justice/law enforcement, health services, social services and youth.

Band Boosters holding raffle
Jeffersonville High School Band Boosters is again raffling off $10,000. There will only be 1,000 tickets sold.
The drawing will take place Saturday, Feb. 22, during halftime at the JHS boys varsity basketball game.

Moore campaign holding fundraiser
The I’m for Mike Moore campaign will host a spaghetti dinner fundraiser for The Center for Lay Ministries at 5:30 p.m. March 1 at St. Augustine Parish Hall, 315 E. Chestnut St., Jeffersonville.
The spaghetti dinner will be prepared by legendary Jeffersonville restaurateur Ray Parrella. Live entertainment will be provided by The Italian Stallions.
Tickets for the dinner are $10. Proceeds will benefit The Center for Lay Ministries.

Suicide prevention workshop on tap
A suicide prevention workshop, sponsored by the downtown churches, LifeSpring Health Systems and the Southern Indiana Suicide Prevention Coalition will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, at St. Luke’s United Church of Christ, 329 Wall St., Jeffersonville. Light snacks will be served.
The workshop will feature information on how to know if someone you care about is at-risk for suicide, what help is available and information and what community resources exist for survivors.
The event is free and open to the public.
Learn African-American heritage
The Clarksville Branch of the Jeffersonville Township Public Library, 1312 Eastern Blvd., Clarksville, will host historians Maxine Brown and Jeanne Burke for an opportunity to learn more about Southern Indiana’s African American Heritage, 6 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 25.
Brown is an advocate for Harrison County’s African American Heritage and a recipient of the Eli Lilly Lifetime Achievement Award from the Indiana Historical Society. Clark County historian Burke will be co-presenting. This event is free and open to the public. For more information on this program, call 812-285-5640.
Game night coming to library
The Clarksville Branch of the Jeffersonville Township Public Library, 1312 Eastern Blvd., Clarksville, will sponsor family game night from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 28, at the library.
Families are invited to spend quality time together playing life-size games, board games, Wii games, crafts and much more.
