> SOUTHERN INDIANA —
Along with the announcement of a 30 to 45 day closure of the Clark Memorial Bridge next year, a series of long-term closures were released Thursday by Ohio River Bridges Project officials.
The closures are a preliminary list of roads and exit and entrance ramps that will be shut down during the construction of Kentucky’s downtown portion of the bridges project. The work includes construction of a new northbound Interstate 65 bridge, conversion of the Kennedy Bridge into a southern-only route, construction of approaches on each side of the river and the reconstruction of Spaghetti Junction.
Long-term closures outlined in a press release for the Kentucky side of the downtown bridges project includes a closure of the I-64 eastbound ramp to southbound I-65, which will be closed for 1,000 days starting July 8. The ramp is expected to reopen in mid-2016.
Starting in 2015, the I-65 ramp to I-64 westbound will be closed from mid-2015 to early 2016, or about 122 days; the Liberty Street ramp to I-65 northbound will be closed in mid-2015 to mid-2016, or 134 days; the I-64 eastbound ramp to I-65 northbound will close in the spring 2016 and remain closed until late 2016, or 258 days; the I-65 southbound ramp to I-64 westbound will be closed in spring 2016 to mid-2016, or 130 days; and the Muhammad Ali Boulevard ramp to I-65 northbound will be closed in the spring of 2016 until mid-2016, or 82 days.
Long-term Indiana closures will begin in May with the closure of the Clark Memorial Bridge and U.S. 31 South of Court Avenue in Jeffersonville, which will remain closed for 30 to 45 days. A detour from Court Avenue ramp to U.S. 31 northbound — which tentatively will take traffic east on Court Avenue, north onto Spring Street, then west onto 10th Street back to northbound U.S. 31 — will be in effect from spring 2014 to spring 2015.
The Court Avenue entrance ramp to I-65 southbound will close in the spring 2016 and will reopen in mid-2016, or 75 days.
All dates are general in nature and more specific dates will not be known until later in the design process, according to a press release.
