New Tech placement announcement expected in Clarksville

Clarksville Redevelopment and school board meetings both held tonight

CLARKSVILLE — A decision on the home for Clarksville Community Schools’ New Tech High could come tonight following two meetings.

The district and the town’s Redevelopment Commission both have New Tech discussions slated on their agendas, suggesting an announcement of the school’s location.

Bob Popp, commission president, said he thinks it’s possible they could approve putting the school in the Value City property off Eastern Boulevard.

“I believe Nick [Lawrence, redevelopment director] and the attorneys have worked out an agreement,” Popp said. “I feel like it will be passed by the Redevelopment Commission Thursday night.”

The district has taken steps to get the facility — which is based on an educational model that focuses on problem-based learning — for the last two years.

Though other locations were identified by the district, the Value City property remained the primary target. Now, board members at both tables think they can move forward.

“We are hoping that we have reached an agreeable resolution and with redevelopment and believe that is a possibility,” said Bill Wilson, president of the school district’s board of trustees. “Both sides have worked diligently, there’s just a lot to get through. I think we’re getting close to resolution that will be good for everybody.”

The Redevelopment Commission will meet at 7 p.m. at Clarksville Town Hall, 2000 Broadway St. The district’s board will meet at 8 p.m. at Clarksville Middle School, 101 Ettel Lane.
