Although the committee has created a preliminary recommendation to submit to the town council, a public-comment period is open now until Aug. 9. Public comments can be submitted via email to firstname.lastname@example.org. The committee will meet again in the Executive Conference Room at Clarksville Town Hall on Aug. 10 to review public comments, and then vote to finalize the recommendation, finalize it after modifying it based on public comments or table it for further research.
Clarksville resident Tom DeArk told the committee members present that they had done an outstanding job with a difficult task, which prompted a round of applause for the committee from those present.
Former councilman John Krueger echoed DeArk’s assessment, and asked about districtwide versus townwide voting. Kenney responded that voting format was not considered a critical driver when the committee was formulating its recommendation because towns can determine the structure of their elections, unlike cities, which have the structure of their elections mandated by statute.
