Pianist to perform in conjunction with New Albany documentary premiere

Film documents city’s history, revival

NEW ALBANY — “New Albany: City by the River” is a documentary film that tells the story of New Albany’s past and sheds some light on the people that are breathing new life into the downtown area. Since the spring of 2012,  Philip Collins and Daniel Frank have been researching and filming interviews on location in local shops, restaurants, museums, and historical sites. After nearly two years, the film is now complete.

On Dec. 18, “New Albany: City by the River” will premiere at The Grand theater in downtown New Albany. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the documentary will be shown at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 and $8 for students.

In conjunction with the premiere there will be a “Deck the Falls” Holiday CD Showcase performance by pianist Lemoyne Smith. Smith is an accomplished pianist and will play selections from the CD, classical, jazz and blues selections, from 6 to 7 p.m. and 8 to 9 p.m. the night of the showing.

“New Albany: City by the River” is not just about celebrating the past, it is about recording the present. Collins and Frank documented firsthand accounts from the people who are essentially rebuilding New Albany with their bare hands. More than 20 historians, business owners, artists, and community members were interviewed. Local New Albany musicians provided the music used in the film: Ben Traughber, Aaron Tyler, Ranger and Field of Kings.

Tickets are available online at www.newalbanydoc.com/store.html. Check In at the event for tickets purchased online prior to Dec. 18. Tickets are also available at the door. Seating limited to 400.
