New Albany couple charged in armed robbery of delivery driver

NAPD locates suspects through phone records

NEW ALBANY —

A couple was arrested Monday morning after robbing a pizza delivery man, New Albany Police reported.

Robert Moore, 19, of 186 Woodland Ave. in New Albany, and Makenzie Craig, 18, of 525 N. Sherwood Ave. in Clarksville, have each been preliminarily charged with B felony robbery.

New Albany Police Maj. Keith Whitlow said a $14 pizza delivery order was made to an area pizzeria, and when the delivery driver arrived to the caller’s address at 217 W. 10th St. in New Albany about 10:15 p.m. Sunday, he realized the home was an abandoned property.

While parked outside the home, a man, later identified as Moore, approached the window of the delivery driver’s vehicle and struck the driver in the face with his hand, Whitlow said.

Whitlow said Moore then displayed a small handgun, ordered the delivery driver out of the vehicle and took an undisclosed amount of money from the man’s pocket.

Moore then fled the area on foot, Whitlow said, and the delivery driver followed the man in his car, until losing sight of him behind a home in the 900 block of West Market Street.

The pizza delivery driver then contacted police.

Whitlow said officers were able to track the phone number that placed the order for the pizza to a Clarksville man.

The man was contacted, and he told police the phone was property of his stepdaughter, Craig.

Through investigation, police determined Craig was in a relationship with Moore, whose physical description matched that of the man who assaulted and robbed the pizza delivery driver.

Whitlow said investigators were able to connect Moore and Craig to a home along Woodland Drive in the Broadmeade Terrace community.

Police responded to the home Monday and located both Moore and Craig and placed them under arrest about 9:30 a.m. The home is a residence of an acquaintance to Moore and Craig, Whitlow said.

Whitlow said during the arrests, police located the firearm believed to have been shown to the delivery driver, the stolen money and other evidence.

Moore and Craig are expected be charged this week in Floyd County Circuit Court.
