GOP caucus to pick new Floyd County auditor April 17

NEW ALBANY — Residents will find out April 17 who will finish out Darin Coddington’s term, which ends Dec. 31, 2014, as Floyd County Auditor.

Coddington announced last month he would resign his post effective May 3. He cited “personal reasons” for stepping down. Coddington came under fire recently when Floyd County Council members said they were given the wrong figures from the auditor’s office last fall when preparing the 2013 budget, which is why the county now has a $2.4 million deficit. However, Coddington has said he is not resigning due to the budget issue.

Floyd County Republican Party Chairman David Matthews confirmed Tuesday night that a caucus has been scheduled for April 17 to replace Coddington. The meeting to elect the next auditor will be held at the Greenville Fire Department headquarters and is not open to the public. The only ones attending will be precinct committee chairs who will vote with a secret ballot for the new auditor.

Matthews said he has received three resumes for the position and said it is not too late to apply. He said those interested must be a registered Republican and should contact him at 812-923-8951.

Since announcing his resignation, Coddington has not been attending Floyd County Commissioners or council meetings. Chief Deputy Auditor Amanda Ault has been representing the office at meetings.
