NEWS AND TRIBUNE BRIEFS — For April 2

(Continued)

The historical rectory was built in 1870 as part of Holy Trinity, the first Catholic church in Southern Indiana. The rectory suffered smoke and water damage when the church was destroyed by a fire in 1975. While Holy Trinity was never rebuilt, the rectory was repaired and has since been used by various social service agencies during the last 30 years. St. E’s recently acquired the building and plans to use it for Mental Health Counseling and office space after rehabilitations are complete.

Bridge Liquors celebrating 50 years

Bridge Liquors in New Albany has 50 reasons to celebrate.

On April 12, Bridge, at 110 Knable Lane, will celebrate its 50th anniversary with food, beer samplings, giveaways and music. The festivities are from 4 to 8 p.m.

Bridge Liquors was opened by veterinarian Dr. Joseph Knable and has maintained family ownership over the past five decades. His niece, Susan Kerber, is the longtime manager at Bridge.

The liquor store moved to its current building 35 years ago and has expanded three times. It carries a large selection of local craft beers and wines.

“I’m very proud. We have a lot of repeat customers and we try to stay very competitive,” Kerber said.
