New Albany

Montessori lottery deadline near

Community Montessori Charter Public School in New Albany is accepting applications for the 2013-14 school year for ages 5-18. The only application requirement for admission is to be a resident of Indiana.

Applications received by the lottery deadline on Saturday, Feb. 1, will be considered for admission during the lottery to be held in mid-March. A school tour/observation is required for all applications. Tours are available at 6 p.m. today, Thursday, Jan. 31.

Church to show ‘October Baby’

Charlestown Road Southern Baptist Church, 2404 Charlestown Road, New Albany, will show the movie “October Baby” at 5:30 p.m., Feb. 9, at the church. Childcare will be provided. The movie is rated PG-13.

 

Hand puppet workshop is upcoming

The Carnegie Center Family Fun Workshops have been a great success and these drop-in classes in the lower level are the perfect way for families to spend Saturday morning together.  All ages have a chance to look around the galleries and are led by CCAH staff and volunteers as they create art related to the exhibits or an upcoming holiday.

At the Feb. 9 workshop, participants will be making mice hand puppets using felt, yarn, glue, wiggle eyes and pom poms.   

 This drop-in workshop is free and open to the first 60 participants, suggested ages 2-12. Registration is required and is on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants should arrive no later than 11:30 a.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Call the CCAH to register or for more information at 812-944-7336.  

 

Church offering Super Bowl event

Galatian Missionary Baptist Church, 2020 Maryland Ave., New Albany, is sponsoring a Super Bowl Saturday Buffalo Wing Cook-off from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at the church. 

Come cast your vote on the best buffalo wings in Southern Indiana. Wing dinner includes wings from each team, potato salad, celery, dressing for wings, roll, a cookie and a soda,. Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children; plain wings will be available.
