Man alerts friend of crime in Jeffersonville, then gets charged

JPD arrest alleged home burglar

JEFFERSONVILLE — After a Sellersburg man alerted a friend that his Jeffersonville home had been broken into Tuesday, he was seen on a pawn shop’s surveillance video attempting to sell an Xbox gaming console that had been stolen from the home, police reported.

LaMichael Deace Mudd, 21, Johnson Street, was arrested by the Jeffersonville Police Department Tuesday and later charged in Clark County Circuit Court No. 4 with class B felony burglary and class A misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

Officers were called to a home on Springdale Drive, Jeffersonville, in reference to a burglary and talked with the man who reported the crime at his home.

The man said his friend, Mudd, had called him on the phone earlier in the day and reported he had seen a GMC Envoy backed into the driveway of his home and a man get into the vehicle and drive away.

Mudd later told police that he had yelled at a man who had come out of his friend’s home and asked what he was doing before the man got into the SUV and drove away. He continued to tell police he followed the vehicle for about a quarter of a mile, but lost the fleeing SUV at a nearby 10th Street intersection.

Police reported a window of the home had been broken during the burglary and a 13-inch TV, an Xbox, several games and a duffel bag had been stolen.

Police then went to S & S Brothers Jewelry and Repair less than a mile from the home and were able to obtain surveillance video of Mudd and statements from employees that he had attempted to sell the stolen Xbox earlier in the day.

Mudd was located at the home where the burglary had occurred and was taken into police custody.

A pretrial conference has been scheduled for Jan. 13.
