Prevention group to hold stop-smoking event

JEFFERSONVILLE — The Clark County Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Coalition will mark The American Cancer Society’s Great American Smokeout on Thursday, Nov. 21.

Advice, encouragement, and tools for quitting smoking will be available in the lobby of Clark Memorial Hospital, 1220 Missouri Ave., Jeffersonville, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. that day.

This annual event encourages smokers to use the date to make a plan to quit, or to plan in advance and quit smoking that day. By quitting — even for one day — smokers will be taking an important step toward a healthier life — one that can lead to reducing cancer risks.

Tobacco use remains the largest preventable cause of disease and premature death in the country. In Clark County, 28.5 percent of residents smoke, which is above state and national averages. This contributes to higher rates of lung cancer and cardiovascular disease deaths in Clark County.

Call 812-285-5877 or email annie.reiss@clarkmemorial.org for more information.
