Floyd County Young Democrats group elects officers

Chris Gardner selected as president

NEW ALBANY — The Floyd County Young Democrats recently held a reorganization meeting and elected Chris Gardner as president for 2013-14.

Josh Staten will serve as vice president, Kendra Glotzbach as treasurer and April Dickey as secretary. Courtney Lewis will also serve on the leadership team as immediate past president.

“I am honored to be selected to lead the Young Democrats for the next year,” Gardner said in a release. “This organization has a proud history of advocating for youth and supporting the principles of the Democratic Party and I look forward to continuing that tradition in our community.”

Gardner is the director of the New Albany Flood Control District and a 2010 graduate of Indiana University Southeast majoring in business management. He promised to work with both the Floyd County Democratic Men’s and Women’s clubs in addition to the Floyd County Democratic Central Committee to grow and build the party.

“I’m very proud of this slate of candidates selected by the Young Democrats,” Party Chairman Adam Dickey said in the release. “I’m excited by their enthusiasm for the Democratic Party and pleased to see them step-up to lead this organization.”

Dickey previously led the Young Democrats as president from 2003–06 and also served as the organization’s treasurer before being elected chairman this March.

“I’ll admit, the Young Democrats have a special place in my heart,” Dickey said. “It’s critical that we have an organization that allows young people the opportunity to lead and play a prominent role within our party. It helps your leaders grow their skill set and reach for higher aspirations.”

As an auxiliary organization of the Democratic Party, the Young Democrats seeks to energize citizens under age 36 by developing young, civic-minded leaders and supporting the principles of the Democratic Party and its candidates.

The organization includes members representing high school and college students, young professionals and young families. Those interested in learning more about the Young Democrats can go online to or contact Gardner at 812-725-7430.
