Free movie Friday at Amphitheater

The city of New Albany and the Horseshoe Foundation of Floyd County are sponsoring a free showing of the movie “The Pirates! Band of Misfits” on Friday at the New Albany Riverfront Amphitheater.

Gates will open for the event at 9 p.m., and Wick’s Pizza and Parlor will be on site to sell pizza and drinks.

Birthing center offers class

Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services’ Birthing Center’s certified nurse midwife, Carla Layne, will present a new Family Fundamentals: Midwives, Doulas and Dads free class from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. tonight, Aug. 28, at the hospital’s Paris Health Education Center, 1150 State St., New Albany.

Learn how a midwife can help during pregnancy, labor and delivery. Dads can be better prepared too by discovering fathering fundamentals. Plus, a doula will be introduced and will discuss their support role.

FLOYD COUNTY

Purdue Glee Club to perform at FCHS

The Falls Cities Purdue Alumni Club will sponsor the Purdue Varsity Glee Club, 3 p.m., Sept. 8, at Floyd Central High School, 6575 Old Vincennes Road, Floyds Knobs.

Tickets are $12 and all profits go toward scholarships in this area. For more information call 812-282-7730.

Attend event, help pets

Cabo Wabo, known for 20-plus years of charitable events, is partnering with the Floyd County Animal Rescue League for the first P.A.W.S (Pets Are Worth Saving) event at the New Albany Riverfront Amphitheater on Sept. 7.

Musical guests are longtime area favorites The Rumors and 100% Poly.

This 21-and-over event which begins at 6 p.m. and ends at midnight. Admission is $10. Attendees are encouraged to also bring rolls of paper towels for the animal shelter.   

CLARK COUNTY

Tea Party invites public to meeting

The Clark County Tea Party invites the public to the group’s weekly meeting, 6:30 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 29, at Silver Creek Middle School, 495 N. Indiana Ave., Sellersburg.

Guest speaker will be Luis Pozzolo, the co-founder of Alliance for Immigration Justice and Director of America for Lawful Immigration Solutions Today. Both of these organizations are dedicated to support reasonable legal immigration, stop illegal immigration, respect for the rule of law and oppose mass amnesties. Luis has been involved actively seeking to awaken Americans of the negative effect of illegal immigration and the need to strengthen the immigration system and the basic principles which are (1) defend our sovereignty; (2) defend our economy; and (3) defend American workers.
