NEW ALBANY

Sleep seminar scheduled

The Floyd Memorial Sleep Disorders Center is hosting a free Sleep Seminar, 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 2:39 p.m., Nov. 6, in the Floyd Memorial Paris Health Education Center.

Understand what causes sleep problems in children and adults, discover how sleep deprivation affects your body, learn techniques to help you get a good night’s sleep and find out if you need a sleep study.

Webinar highlights farming requirements

Farmers and others who wish to learn more about the Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) should plan to attend the webinar-based program for on farm food safety, 1 to 4 p.m., Nov. 14, in the Shine Family Room on the first floor of the Purdue Technology Center, 3000 Technology Ave. New Albany.

Attending these three webinars will meet the current requirement of the Indiana State Department of Health for farmers to be an “approved vendor” of fresh fruits and vegetables. Being an “approved vendor” and registering with the state are currently required to sell product wholesale or other than direct to the consumer.

Participants will need to be at all the presentations to receive the certificate of attendance.

A registration fee of $30 includes program, workbook, handouts, certificate of attendance and mock audit workshop. An additional $10 fee provides for a second attendee from the same farm with one set of materials.

Anyone who wishes to participate without certification may attend at the Floyd County site or remotely from their home or office computer for free.

Event to benefit Open Door Youth Services

Meet artist and author Dailene Martin Bobbitt at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, at First Assembly of God, 2778 Charlestown Road, New Albany.

The cost is $10. Sandwiches and desserts will be served. All proceeds go to Open Door Youth Services, formerly the Floyd County Youth Shelter. The event is sponsored by the Floyd County Republican Women’s Club.
