Jeffersonville buys vacant plot

Road closures approved for Saturday event

JEFFERSONVILLE — Jeffersonville’s Board of Public Works approved the purchase of property owned by the Rolling Ridge Subdivision homeowners association for $1.

The property, which abuts Vissing Park, was sought at the request of Indiana American Water Co., said City Engineer Andy Crouch.

He explained the city had planned to run utilities through the area, to other city-owned property, and Indiana American Water Co. requested Jeffersonville purchase the land to make it contiguous.

“They don’t want anything else going on there, we don’t want anything else going on there,” Crouch said, referring to Rolling Ridge.

City Attorney Les Merkley presented a contract to purchase the vacant property, which acts as a detention basin for the subdivision, and grants the city direct access to Vissing Park.

“We made clear in the agreement we will not disturb their detention basin,” he said.

The board of public works unanimously approved the purchase agreement. The property will be maintained by the Jeffersonville Parks Department.
