Just for fun: Fun center opens along Hamburg Pike

JEFFERSONVILLE — For most folks, running a business means spending time away from the kids. However, that’s not the case for Angie Doherty, 40.

“My son’s upset he has to go to school,” she said with a laugh during a recent interview.

That’s because Doherty is now owner of a business that her kids won’t want to leave: Outside In Family Fun Center on Jeffersonville’s Hamburg Pike. The fun center — formerly Luper’s World of Fun and the Tumble Station — is located just south of the Southern Indiana YMCA and opened earlier this month.

“I have two small children and really felt like our area was lacking [a place] where the whole family could spend time together doing something active,” Doherty said.

In addition to that, she said she and her husband wanted a place their children could enjoy as well.

Outside In opened Aug. 9 and she said kids have been turning out steadily to check the place out. Since the heat wave has ended, the 18-hole miniature golf course and race track for power wheels and pedal cars have been popular outside, she said.

Inside, Doherty noted in a press release, there’s a special toddler room with smaller inflatables in which younger children can play without fear of being stepped on by the big kids.

Fear not, big kids. The upstairs features large Inflatables and video games. There’s also a snack bar, where pizza, ice cream, and other treats are offered, she said.

The center also has a large gazebo and picnic areas for birthday parties, reunions and other events.

Doherty, a former teacher, said she’s been around children all her life.

“We’ve been planning this concept for nearly four years. It’s taken a lot of work, but we’re proud to offer wholesome, fun entertainment to families at a good value.”

She hopes to expand on what’s there currently and encourages visitors to come back often to look for new attractions.
