NEW ALBANY —
A request to move a circa-1890 house to a new location remained tabled Tuesday, as the New Albany Board of Public Works and Safety didn’t act on the proposal.
New Albany Clean & Green and Access Ventures, Co., plan to move the house from 1815 Shelby St. to 1718 Shelby St., and to renovate the structure.
City Attorney Stan Robison said Tuesday he’s still reviewing the request and documents submitted by the contractor.
A representative with Access Ventures said the slated moving date for the house could be delayed since the board didn’t act.
The rehabilitation of the house is expected to take four months, and if OK’d, the home will be located on a now empty lot owned by New Albany Clean & Green.
HARVEST TENT FOR WICK’S OK’D
As long as permission is granted by the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, Wick’s Pizza Parlor will be allowed to cover its parking lot with a tent during Harvest Homecoming booth days.
The Board of Works approved the request Tuesday, as utilizing the parking lot will allow Wick’s to have space for outdoor entertainment during the festival.
Wick’s, l225 State St., won’t be able to offer customers on-site parking during booth days, which will run from Oct. 10-13.
However, New Albany Wick’s manager Andrew Helb said “it’s somewhat moot” considering the amount of traffic downtown during the festival.
Typically, people park off surrounding streets and in parking lots in the vicinity of the festival and walk to the event with downtown portions of roads such as Market Street being closed.
Helb said since Wick’s won’t be using the official logo of the festival, permission from the Harvest Homecoming committee won’t be needed in order to set up the tent.
Approval from Indiana Homeland Security will be needed because the body regulates outdoor events where stages and tents are installed.
The Board of Works took under advisement Tuesday a request from Cafe 27 to allow the business to set up a tent in an alley near the establishment.
Cafe 27,145 E. Main St., would feature live music during booth days in the tent. The alley leads to Market Street, and city officials said they need to ensure that closing the alley wouldn’t hamper other vendors from accessing their booths during the event.
CURB CUT APPROVED FOR FIREHOUSE
The Board of Works approved a curb cut that will allow construction to begin on a new firehouse off Daisy Lane near the former Camille Wright pool.
The fire station will replace the Green Valley Road house, and will be located adjacent to the new outdoor aquatic center when it’s finished in 2015.
A loan worth up to $5 million will cover the construction costs of the new fire station as well as improvements to the Grant Line Road and Twin Oaks firehouses.
An exact start date for construction hasn’t been announced, though city officials have said construction could start by the end of the month.
