New Albany announces summer concert plans

Bicentennial Park will host weekly series

NEW ALBANY — The Live@5 summer concert series has been re-branded, as New Albany Bicentennial Park will host each of the events this year.

The free concerts will be held each Friday from 6 to 9  p.m. at the Bicentennial Park, which city officials said will open at some point this month.

The park is located at the corner of Spring and Pearl streets in downtown New Albany.

The city is partnering with Production Simple to provide the events, and the first concert will be held on June 7.

The Southern Indiana bands Ranger and The Riverboys will play the first show. A complete schedule hasn’t been announced by the administration.

After hosting weekly events at the New Albany Riverfront Amphitheater during prior years, Mayor Jeff Gahan’s administration elected to hold the summer concert series at various downtown venues last year.

The series was called Live@5, though it was suspended for about a month during the summer due to extreme heat.

The Riverfront Amphitheater is now primarily rented by private residents and groups for events.

The city has planned a Memorial Day event at the venue. The Disney film “Wreck-It-Ralph” will be shown on a 40-foot movie screen at the Riverfront Amphitheater.

The movie will start at dark, which is projected to be 9 p.m.
