Parking near Big Four to be evaluated

JEFFERSONVILLE —

With the continued development surrounding the Big Four Bridge ramp landing near Pearl and Market streets in Jeffersonville, the Board of Public Works was asked to address parking concerns in the area.

Public Works Director Rick Lovan said some neighbors have complained about resident-only parking signs in place at the Old Bridge Inn along Chestnut Street.

The bed-and-breakfast has had four resident-only parking signs in place near the building for years, for which it pays $400 annually. There is also a public parking lot located nearby.

“It was approved by the board of public works years ago,” Lovan said. “It really takes up seven or eight spaces when they have four [signs].”

But the concern is that with the opening of the Big Four Bridge ramp — anticipated in late August — on-street parking will be limited.

“Parking’s going to be ... in high demand down there,” said Mayor Mike Moore.

The board of public works asked Corporation Attorney Les Merkley to look into the ordinance pertaining to resident-only parking signs.

“I don’t know how legal it is for them to have four,” Lovan said.

CONTRACT APPROVAL

The board approved the renewal of a contract with LexisNexis for the city’s legal department.

Fees for the renewal total $157 per month.
