Indiana Senate President Pro Tem David Long (R-Fort Wayne) has appointed State Sen. Ron Grooms (R-Jeffersonville) to serve as chair of the Commission on Developmental Disabilities and as a member of the Health Finance Commission for 2013.
“Study committees give lawmakers an opportunity to take a close look at vital issues facing Hoosiers, hear expert testimony and get input from those affected,” Grooms said in a press release. “While several important topics will be discussed this summer, one of the most pressing is the Health Finance Commission’s hearings on the Affordable Care Act. I hope our work this summer will lead to meaningful solutions in support of Hoosier health.”
Each summer and fall — when Indiana’s part-time legislature is not in session — lawmakers are assigned to interim study committees that meet to review the state’s top issues, as identified by the General Assembly during the prior legislative session.
“Study committees are an essential part of Indiana’s legislative process,” Long said. “Many of the issues that lawmakers consider during the summer and fall months are the foundation for legislation that will come before the General Assembly in the upcoming session.”
Grooms was also appointed to serve on the following committees: Commission for a Drug Free Indiana and Joint Study Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Assessment and Solutions.
