Earth Day celebration for tweens and teens
The New Albany-Floyd County Public Library will celebrate Earth Day from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 22, in the Strassweg Auditorium at 180 W. Spring St.
Tweens and teens will learn how to make origami planters out of newspaper and plant vegetable seeds in them. Students will also learn how to make a no-sew reusable tote bag out of old T-shirts. They will also learn recipes for green snacks.
No registration is required but students are asked to bring an old T-shirt to make the tote bag. For more information, call 812-949-3523.
40 & 8 Club hosting lunch
The 40 & 8 Club will sponsor an open house and lunch from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, April 21, at the clubhouse, 221 Albany St., New Albany.
The menu will be: spaghetti and meat sauce, fried chicken, vegetable medley, salad and dessert. Cost is $7.
Church offers ‘How to Fish’ class
Men, women and children of all ages are invited to take up their poles and come to Sam Peden Community Park, Shelter House No. 1, 3037 Grant Line Road, New Albany, for a free “How to Fish” session from 4 to 6 p.m. May 5.
Sponsored by the men’s ministry of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, the afternoon is an opportunity for families to participate together, according to Jim Kanning, men’s ministry chair. Experienced men, women and young adults will conduct the session, and children must be accompanied by an adult. No reservations are required.
For participants who are not able to bring their own rod and reel or fishing pole, those will be loaned for the session. Adults age 17 and older must have a fishing license. Bait will be provided for the instruction in casting, baiting the hook, tying knots, and adjusting bobbers. For more information, call 812-968-4268.
FMH hosting Cardinal Uniform sale
Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services Auxiliary will host a Cardinal Uniform sale from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday, April 22, in the Paris Education area in the hospital, 1850 State St., New Albany.
The sale will be open to the public as well as hospital employees and associates. There will be an abundance of items such as uniforms, scrubs, Nursemate Shoes, stethoscopes, socks, support hose and blood pressure cuffs.
There will be plenty of clearance items and a large selection of value priced scrubs. As always a percentage of the sales will go toward the many hospital projects of the Auxiliary.
