Police report few problems during annual air and fireworks show

State and local police agencies reported few problems and arrests related to Saturday’s Thunder Over Louisville.

Clarksville Police Chief Mark Palmer said in a press release that there were a few problems reported during the 24th annual air and fireworks show, but the Clarksville Police Department made no arrests.

He said there was a smaller turnout for this year’s event and there was also an increased police presence. Palmer attributed the smaller crowds to the lack of military planes in the air show and concerns related to the attacks last Monday at the Boston Marathon.

“Overall with a smaller turnout it seemed more of the local community came out for the event, which in the past may have kept them at home due to large crowds,” he said in the release.

Palmer added traffic also cleared out at a steady pace and thanked attendees for their patience and for keeping safety in mind.

Indiana State Police Spokesman Sgt. Jerry Goodin also said there were no arrests on the riverfront during the event. However, state police made several traffic stops that resulted in 12 DWI arrests.

Two of the arrests reported were felonies, and another arrest was the result of an outstanding warrant, Goodin said.

Jeffersonville Police Department Det. Todd Hollis said Jeffersonville Police made two arrests inside the event area Saturday, but otherwise there were few problems.

“We didn’t have any significant issues,” he said. “It was, overall, a good Thunder.”
