All BMV branches closed Jan. 19
All branches of the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles will be closed Saturday, Jan. 19 through Monday, Jan. 21, in observance of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, according to a press release from BMV Commissioner R. Scott Waddell. Locations will resume normal operating hours on Tuesday, Jan. 22.
Floyd Central plans reunion
A reunion has been set for members of Floyd Central High School’s 1980-1989 graduating classes. The 2013 FCHS All 80’s event will be from 6 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, at Joe Huber Family Farm and Restaurant. A buffet style dinner will be served and a cash bar will be available, big
screen TVs will be set up to watch the IU vs. Iowa game and entertainment will be provided by Kevin Merritt of New Sounds Inc.
The cost for the event is $22 to be paid to Huber’s at the door the day of the event.

Four Chaplains tribute Feb. 3
The Bonnie Sloan American Legion Post 28 of New Albany will hold its annual tribute to the four chaplains who sacrificed their lives in February 1919 as the SS Dorchester was sunk by a German submarine.
The tribute will be at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 3, at the Post Home, 1930 McDonald Lane. The community is invited to attend and hear the account of the lives lost as given by members of the American Legion family.
The post will be open to the public all day. Lunch will be served from 12:30 to 3 p.m., karaoke begins at 5 p.m. and bingo starts at 6 p.m.
NA-FC Library book sale Jan. 19
The Friends of the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library will hold their annual science fiction and fantasy book sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, in the library’s annex building, at the corner of Spring Street and Scribner Drive, New Albany.
All books in the science fiction, fantasy and new age sections will be discounted by 50 percent. Regular prices are $1 for hardback books, 50 cents for videos, DVDs and paperbacks, 25 cents for
audio book cassette tapes and 10 cents for magazines and music cassette tapes. Children’s books are available for $1 or less.

NARFE meeting is Jan. 23
The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association chapter #1777 of New Albany will have its monthly meeting at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 23, at Tucker’s restaurant, 2141 State St.,
The program will be a report from the Jan. 8 meeting with legislators in the state capitol in Indianapolis, arranged by Rep. Ed Clere, to give NARFE members from across Indiana a chance to convene with lawmakers and push for fairness in legislation affecting civil service retirees.
Lunch for the Jan. 23 meeting can be ordered from the menu. No reservations are necessary and all active and retired federal employees and their families are invited to attend.

The Catholic Community of Jeffersonville, St. Augustine and Sacred Heart Parishes Health Ministry Team is offering a free seminar on life’s challenges, 7 to 8:30 p.m., Jan. 29, at St. Augustine Church, 315 E. Chestnut Street, Jeffersonville.
Unexpected Life Changing Events and End of Life Care: A Spiritual, Medical and Legal Perspective, will begin with brief introductory remarks, followed by an opportunity to ask questions from a physician, attorney or clergy. Some of the topics include Advanced Directives, Organ and Tissue donation, Patient Rights, and Artificial Nutrition and Hydration.

For Love of Music at The Olmstead
The Louisville Youth Choir, artists in residence at Sacred Heart School for the Arts, will host its For Love of Music dinner and silent auction from 5 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 27, at The Olmstead, 3701 Frankfort Ave., in Louisville.
