Jeffersonville

Chili and Brew Bonanza returns

Jeffersonville Main Street Inc. is looking for a few good chili cooks.

The nonprofit downtown revitalization group is hosting its eighth annual Chili and Brew Bonanza from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 7 at Kye’s II in Jeffersonville.

Jeffersonville Main Street is seeking both amateur and professional chili cooks to be among the 20 recipes available to sample. To enter as a chili cook email info@JeffMainStreet.org.

In addition to chili there will be a variety of brews to taste, live music, a silent auction and lots of fun. Proceeds go to help with Jeffersonville Main Street's efforts to revitalizing downtown Jeffersonville.

Bone Marrow registry drive is Feb. 7 

Floyd Memorial Cancer Center of Indiana is hosting a Bone Marrow Registry Drive, 3 to 7 p.m., Feb. 7, at Floyd Memorial Cancer Center of Indiana, 1850 State St., New Albany.

Aebersold quartet show is Tuesday

The Jamey Aebersold Jazz Quartet will perform from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, in the Strassweg Auditorium of the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library.

In addition to Aebersold, who will be playing the alto saxophone, the Quartet includes Steve Allee on piano, Tyrone Wheeler on bass and Jonathan Higgins on drums.

The event is free and open to the public.

Aebersold, a native of New Albany, is an internationally-known jazz musician who has produced jazz educational materials around the world.

 

Networking on the First Tuesday

Develop New Albany’s “First Tuesday” event is February 5, from 5 to 7:30 pm. The event features a “Sweetheart Stroll” which will be held at J. O. Endris Jewelers at 314 Pearl Street and Rookies Cookies at 310 Pearl Street. Local business persons are invited to the networking event. The session also includes the latest updates on what is happening in the city’s downtown. Develop New Albany is a Main Street organization tasked with improving the downtown and historic districts of New Albany. You can find them and more about the organization online. VFW hosting Valentine’s dance

The Ladies Auxiliary Veterans of Foreign Wars Hobart Beach Post 1693 and the New Albany Optimist Club are hosting a Valentine dance from 7 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9, at the post, 1919 Grant Line Road, New Albany.

Admission is $5 per person. The admission cost includes shacks. Music will be provided by DJ Gene.

Sellersburg

Valentine movie and craft at library

The Sellersburg Public Library, 430 N. Indiana Ave., Sellersburg, is hosting a Valentine’s movie and craft night, 6 to 8 p.m. Feb.  5, at the library.

The movie adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ “Message In a Bottle” will be screened while you craft your own bottled messages using recycled glass bottles. These bottled messages will be perfect to give to your special Valentine, but would even make a great gift for a sister, mother, or aunt. This program is free and open to the public.

 

Jeffersonville

All-you-can-eat chicken Friday

The Knights of Columbus, 225 E. Market St., Jeffersonville, will sponsor an all-you-can-eat chicken dinner, 6 to 8 p.m., Feb. 8,  at the K of C. Hall.

The menu of chicken, green beans, macaroni and cheese, potatoes and gravy, slaw, drink and dessert is $8. A large portion of the proceeds will be given to Father Tom for the Haiti Disaster Relief Fund.

 

Church hosting chili supper

Brighter Day Anderson Temple, 1755 E. Eighth St., Jeffersonville, will sponsor an all-you-can-eat chili supper, with various types of chili, desserts, cake auction, music, chili cook-off and much more, 1:30 to 4 p.m., Feb. 9, at the church.

Valentine plate painting is Feb. 10

Downtown Canvas & Cocktails, a new business in downtown Jeffersonville at 300 Spring, is featuring Canvas & Cupcakes, a Valentines Plate Painting session for all ages, 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 10.

These hand-crafted pieces of art will make the perfect gift for grandparents, teachers, or to keep for yourself. Artists will be on hand to guide you with ideas, or you can use your imagination. The session will be held at 300 Spring in downtown Jeffersonville. The cost is $15 per plate and participants must pre-register on the website at www.downtowncanvas.com.
