Canvas & Cupcakes Sunday

Downtown Canvas & Cocktails, a new business in downtown Jeffersonville at 300 Spring, is featuring Canvas & Cupcakes, a Valentines Plate Painting session for all ages, 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 10.

These hand-crafted pieces of art will make the perfect gift for grandparents, teachers, or to keep for yourself. Artists will be on hand to guide you with ideas, or you can use your imagination. The session will be held at 300 Spring in downtown Jeffersonville. You may come anytime during that time slot, but allow yourself plenty of time to be creative. The cost is $15 per plate and participants must pre-register on the website at


Holliday Inn hosting blood drive

The Holiday inn Express, 411 W. Spring St., New Albany, will host a community blood drive from 2 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 26.

St. Joe Hill ready for Lenten fish fry

St. Joe Hill Catholic Church, 2605 St. Joe Road West, Sellersburg, will sponsor Lenten fish frys, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Feb. 15 and 22 and March 1, 8, 15 and 22, at the church Parish Hall.

The menu will be fish or shrimp dinners with french fries, macaroni and cheese, baked beans, slaw, drink and dessert, all for $9. Cheese pizza will also be available. Carry outs available.

Friends of the NA-FC Public Library auction Sunday

At 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, the Friends of the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library will hold a brief annual meeting along with a silent book and gift basket auction in the Strassweg Auditorim, on the first floor of the library.

Books signed by Wendell Berry and President Jimmy Carter and covering such subjects as mountain top removal, Abraham Lincoln and World War II will be among the 31 books in the auction. The 13 gift baskets include the popular chocolate basket, wine basket and baking basket with gift certificates from Sam’s Food & Spirits, Sweet Stuff Bakery and Carmichael’s Bookstores. New this year is a New Albany Bicentennial Basket.  In addition tickets to Derby Dinner Playhouse and the Ogle Center, gift certificates to Pacers & Racers and a valuable Oriental rug donated by Dr. and Mrs. Patrick Hess are available for bidding.

There is no admission charge for the event and light refreshments will be served.
