Motorcycle parade to honor veterans

NEW ALBANY —

At 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 18, the American Legion Riders Chapter 28 will honor all armed forces who have kept our country free. This includes active duty, reserves, national guard, veterans and motorcycle riding armed forces supporters.

The residents of New Albany will host an all-day event starting with a motorcycle ride winding through the city with police escort that will pass designated “official viewing sites” that will provide thank you programming for participants after the ride. This is a free event.

Anyone wanting to participate in the ride should arrive at the New Albany Amphitheater on the riverfront starting at 9:30 a.m. The ride takes off at 11:30 a.m. and will end back at the riverfront. Riders are encouraged to visit official viewing sites for “thank you” events from 2 to 6 p.m. There will be live music courtesy of the Masonic Lodge No. 39, located at 805 E. Market St., New Albany, and the Arts Council of Southern Indiana from 6 to 10 p.m.

WAR MEMORABILIA SOUGHT

Floyd County 4-H Fairgrounds is one of several official viewing locations for the New Albany Bicentennial Armed Forces Appreciation Day Motorcycle Parade, which will be held on Saturday, May 18.

As part of the many activities honoring our veterans, 4-H volunteers plan to present a display of memorabilia, military items, uniforms, and similar items from World War I, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam, Persian Gulf War, Operation Iraqi Freedom in Iraq and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

Organizers are seeking veterans willing to bring memorabilia from different conflicts to display and share the stories behind these items with a community. Hours of the display are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

To confirm your participation, or for more information, contact 812-949 8119 and/or email: fc4hfg@att.net.
