Deadline for ‘Giants’ extended

Members of the community now have until noon on Monday, July 29, to make reservations for Hope Southern Indiana’s seventh annual “Giants in the Faith” celebration from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 4 at Huber Winery’s Plantation Hall in Starlight.

To download a reservation form with details, log onto hopesi.org or stop by Hope at the Brown-Starks Neighborhood Place at 1200 Bono Road, New Albany. Completed forms can be mailed, delivered, or dropped in the mail slot there.

The event will honor 25 individuals and couples from 12 different churches who have been submitted by the public for having had an impact on their Christian faith. Call 812-206-1800 with questions.



Get school clothes from Salvation Army

The Salvation Army will host a clothing giveaway to residents of Clark, Floyd, Scott and Washington counties from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. July 24 at The Salvation Army Thrift Store, 528 Little League Blvd., Clarksville.

Residents in Crawford and Harrison counties can go to the Corydon Thrift Store, 101 W. Hwy. 62, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. July 17.

The giveaway, now in its 23rd year, is sponsored by The Salvation Army in an effort to overcome the high cost of sending children back to school.

Any child or adult residing in Clark, Crawford, Floyd, Harrison, Scott and Washington counties, who is enrolled in school — including college — is eligible to participate and receive eight articles of clothing without cost. Participants only need to bring verification of school enrollment, or birth certificate, and proof of address.

Last year, 1,176 students were helped with clothing and more than 400 received school supplies.



NEW ALBANY

History comes to life at the library

Join Lori Roberts, living historian and author of “Lost Letters: A Civil War Love Story,” as she brings history to life at the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library on Thursday, July 25.

Roberts will give a first person account of married life during the Civil War. Copies of her book will be available for purchase following the program and refreshments will be served. The program begins at 7 p.m. in the library’s Strassweg Auditorium.

Master’s Men to perform

The Master’s Men will perform classic southern Gospel at 5 p.m. Sunday, July 21, at New Beginnings Community Church, 104 Wooded Valley Drive, New Albany.

Family Ark seeks donations

Family Arc is in desperate need of backpacks (with school supplies) for their children.

Learn more about the Belle

The River Ramblings educational lecture series will be presented by Capt. Kevin Mullen, former master of the Belle of Louisville at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 27, Howard Steamboat Museum, 1101 East Market St., Jeffersonville.

The program will be “Belle of Louisville, 28 years of Memories and Magical Moments.”

Registration set for school

Borden Elementary School student registration for the 2013-14 school year will held at the school from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, for kindergarten through third grade and new students; and Thursday, July 25, for grades four through six and new students.

Class of 1963 to reunite

The Borden High School class of 1963 will be holding a 50-year reunion at Fuzzy Zoeller’s Covered Bridge Golf Club from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, July 27.

There will be a buffet dinner and cash bar. Cost per person is $30. Anyone wanting to attend — not just classmates but friends, spouses, etc., are welcome.
