Eight Sisters of Providence celebrate their 50th

3 have ties to New Albany area

Eight Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods recently celebrated their 50th anniversary as members of the congregation this year. They are: Sisters Jeremy Gallet, Elizabeth Koressel, Patricia McGlynn, Janice Ostrowski, Agnes Mary Raetz, Joanna Valentino, Denise Wilkinson and Barbara Ann Zeller.

Three currently or formerly ministered in the New Albany area. They are:  

KORESSEL

Sister Elizabeth Koressel is a native of Elberfeld. She ministers as a pastoral associate at Precious Blood Parish in Jasper.

Sister Elizabeth, the former Sister Mary Andrew, entered the Congregation Sept. 12, 1963, from Corpus Christi Parish in Evansville. She professed perpetual vows Aug. 15, 1971.

She graduated from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College with a bachelor’s degree in education. She received a master’s degree in elementary education from Ball State University and a master’s degree in pastoral studies from Aquinas Institute of Theology.

Her New Albany service: teacher, Catholic Central (1977-1979); St. Mary School (1979-1986).

VALENTINO

Sister Joanna Valentino is a native of Chicago. She ministers as the administrator for the Ministry of Care at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.

Sister Joanna, the former Sister Marie Dominic, entered the Congregation Sept. 12, 1963, from St. Angela Parish in Chicago. She professed perpetual vows Oct. 26, 1969.

She graduated from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College with a bachelor’s degree in education. She received a master’s degree in education from Indiana State University.

Her Floyd County service: Georgetown: manager, Meadows of Guerin, Inc. (2009-2010); Saint Mary-of-the-Woods: minister of care, Providence Health Care, Inc. (2010-2012).

ZELLER

Sister Barbara Ann Zeller is a native of Evansville. She ministers as president and chief executive officer of Providence Self Sufficiency Ministries, Guerin Inc. and Meadows of Guerin Inc. at Georgetown.

Sister Barbara Ann, the former Sister Dorothy Jean, entered the Congregation Sept. 12, 1963, from Corpus Christi Parish in Evansville. She professed perpetual vows Sept. 15, 1974.

She graduated from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College with a bachelor’s degree in education. She received a master’s degree in studies in aging from North Texas State University.

Her Floyd County service: administrator, chief executive officer, Providence Retirement Home (1982-1994); ministry consultant to Sisters of Providence (1994-1995); Georgetown: director, Providence Self Sufficiency Ministries (1995-2006).
