NEW ALBANY —
A man charged with sexually abusing a 6-year-old girl between 2007 and 2008 accepted a plea offer in a Floyd County court Monday.
Robert D. Kron, 48, of 1604 King St., was charged in August 2008 with two counts of A felony child molesting. Through the plea agreement, his charges were modified to two counts D felony sexual battery in Floyd County Circuit Court.
Kron was sentenced to two three-year prison sentences on both counts to run concurrently. The prison sentences were suspended to probation. He was given one-year credit time served, resulting in a two-year probation term.
Kron was incarcerated in the Floyd County Jail from August 2008 to February 2009.
According to the probable-cause affidavit drafted by a New Albany Police detective, the mother of the victimized child reported to police in April 2008 that her daughter and then-4-year-old son had both made statements that Kron molested them. The sexual abuse was reported in the affidavit as taking place in Kron’s home when the children visited and stayed overnight. The mother has previously described Kron as a family friend.
Two months after the report was made with police, the children were administered forensic interviews, at which time the girl reported Kron sexually abused her. The 4-year-boy told the interviewer Kron had touched him in an inappropriate area.
During the investigation, Kron volunteered to take a polygraph test, administered by Indiana State Police. According to the probable cause affidavit, Kron failed the test.
Kron later admitted to the NAPD detective that he had touched the girl in a criminal manner on two occasions.
He was not charged in the alleged molestation of the 4-year-old boy.
Kron’s attorney, William Gray, provided the following statement following the hearing.
“This [plea agreement] was an appropriate resolution to this case, and the Kron family is [pleased] to put this matter behind them.”
