Two hospitalized in fight involving kitchen knife

Altercation took place outside of Jeffersonville bar

JEFFERSONVILLE —

A fight outside of a Jeffersonville bar Tuesday afternoon resulted in two men being hospitalized for stab wounds from a kitchen knife.

Paul Overton, 49, of 111 Magnolia Ave. in Jeffersonville, was arrested following the altercation outside R & R Bar and Grill at 1702 Spring St. near Eastern Boulevard.

Jeffersonville Police Detective Isaac Parker said the victim, who was identified only as a 42-year-old Jeffersonville man, had made threats to harm Overton earlier in the day.

Overton was told of the victim’s threats by two other men, Parker said, and the three men went looking for the victim.

Before Overton found the victim, he allegedly armed himself with a kitchen knife.

The victim was found by the three men in a parking lot adjacent to R & R Bar and Grill about 6:15 p.m.

A fight ensued, at which time Overton stabbed the victim in the torso, according to police, and Overton also fell on his own knife during the altercation.

Parker said no part of the conflict occurred inside the establishment.

The victim was taken to University of Louisville Hospital for treatment and has since been released, Parker said.

After the fight, police were dispatched to Clark Memorial Hospital, where Overton had checked himself in for a stab wound to his chest.

Overton was questioned by investigators at JPD about 10:30 p.m., after his release from the hospital.

He was later preliminarily charged with battery with a deadly weapon, a class C felony, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, a class D felony, and battery — resulting in serious bodily injury, a class A misdemeanor.
