Clarksville bar cited for illegal gambling activity

Excise police also say alcoholic beverages were allowed to be taken in and out of bar

SEYMOUR — Indiana Excise Police seized nearly $10,000 in alleged gambling proceeds from two Southern Indiana bars Saturday.

According to an Indiana State Excise Police press release, while working enforcement details related to the Kentucky Derby, excise officers investigated alleged illegal wagering operations that took place at Resch’s Tavern, off Eastern Boulevard in Clarksville, and the Riverbottom Inn, located in Mauckport.

Both bars were cited on the preliminary administrative charges of promoting professional gambling. Resch’s Tavern was also cited for allegedly allowing alcoholic beverages to be taken in and out of the premises.

An investigation is ongoing to determine if the alleged illegal activity will result in criminal charges being filed, according to the release.

Indiana Excise Police Officer Brandon Thomas explained that once the report is completed it will be handed over to the Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission prosecutor, who will determine if criminal charges will be filed.

The administrative citations that were preliminarily filed carry a penalty of fines, which are also determined by the prosecutor.

No owners or management were available when calls seeking comment were made to Resch’s Tavern on Monday.
