> SOUTHERN INDIANA — SOUTHERN INDIANA

Youth symphony holding auditions

This season’s philharmonic wind and percussion auditions for the Floyd County Youth Symphony will be from 6:15 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, at Floyd Central High School, 6575 Old Vincennes Road, Floyds Knobs. There is a $25 audition fee. Auditions will be heard on a first-come, first-served basis. The symphony is open to any qualified student in the area.

Students should come prepared to play a scale that represents their range and a short excerpt from a solo or ensemble work that demonstrates their development as a player. They are asked to bring an extra copy of their music for the judges. They may be asked to sight read an excerpt from standard orchestral repertoire.

The FCYS is unique in that the State of Indiana offers high school credit for participation. FCYS members must take private lessons and play their instrument in their school orchestra or band, if one is available. Rehearsals will be at Floyd Central High School.

For more information, contact the FCYS at Susan@fcysmusic.com or 812-952-2333, or visit fcysmusic.com.
